CBum Hair Transplant: Chris Bumstead Before and After

Did CBum get a hair transplant? His own posts confirm it: Turkey, late 2023, then a 30-day training break. See the before and after, timeline and unknowns.

Performed at authorized partner hospitals Turkey Hair Center is a Ministry of Health authorized health-tourism intermediary, not a clinic.

CBum hair transplant talk started with his own post. In late November 2023, weeks after winning his fifth Classic Physique Olympia title, Chris Bumstead shared a photo with a closely shaved head, tagged the Turkish provider Now Hair Time and wrote that he had "a feeling it's going to grow back thicker than ever". Days later he complained that he could not train for 30 days. What he never shared is just as important: no graft count, technique, surgeon or price has been published. This guide separates the dated facts from the guesses, answers the training question every lifter asks and explains when a fair verdict on his result became possible.

Did CBum Get a Hair Transplant?

Yes. His case does not rest on fan photo comparisons. On 30.11.2023 Bumstead posted a picture from Turkey with the caption "Fresh haircut from @now.hairtime I guess this is what they think a fade is in Turkey", followed by "I have a feeling it's going to grow back thicker than ever though". Fitness Volt reported the post the next day and noted that his brother-in-law, the bodybuilder Iain Valliere, had made the same trip. On 09.12.2023 TheSportsRush quoted him again: "Sad times not being able to train for 30 days post hair transplant and watching all this work fade away."

Here is what is on record and what is still missing:

  • Confirmed: he had a hair transplant, in Turkey, in late November 2023, and he said so himself.
  • Confirmed: he was told to stop training for 30 days afterwards.
  • Not disclosed: the number of grafts, the method, the surgeon's name and the cost.
  • Disputed: which provider performed it. His post tagged Now Hair Time, while a Generation Iron article from 06.04.2026 names Vera Clinic.

CBum Before and After the Hair Transplant

Bumstead has been one of the most photographed physiques in the sport since his first Classic Physique Olympia win in 2019, so there is no shortage of pictures. Comparing them fairly means putting them in date order and remembering what each photo can and cannot show. The timeline below uses only dated events from published reports, his own posts and public records.

Chris Bumstead Olympia and hair timeline from his fifth title in November 2023 to a September 2026 clinic video

Before: What the Older Photos Show

Bumstead never described his hair loss in detail, so the "before" stage has to be read from photos, and that needs care. In the freely licensed still from 10.10.2021 shown above, the front of his hair is short and styled, and stage lighting or a cap in other pictures can hide the frontal edge completely. Many viral comparisons put a backlit stage shot next to a close-up selfie, which makes any change look bigger or smaller than it was. We do not stage his hair loss on the Norwood scale from photos, because a reliable grade needs an examination.

After: The Shaved Head and the "Fade" Joke

The first "after" image was his own: a closely shaved head that he jokingly called Turkey's idea of a fade. That look says nothing about the result. A newly treated scalp is in its earliest stage, and the transplanted hair has not yet gone through the shedding phase described below. A more useful "after" point is his sixth Olympia win on 13.10.2024, roughly 10 to 11 months after the procedure, when most patients would already see their results.

Where Did CBum Get His Hair Transplant?

In Turkey. His own post tagged Now Hair Time, and on 10.12.2023 the provider's Instagram account published a post calling him "our dear patient Chris Bumstead". On 18.09.2026 the same account shared a reel described as his "Hair Transplant Journey", covering the process from the planning stage to the final view. Note that this is the provider's own material, not an independent review.

The record is not entirely clean. Generation Iron's article of 06.04.2026 names a different provider, Vera Clinic. Bumstead's own tag and the provider's posts point to Now Hair Time, and we found no statement from him naming anyone else. Turkey Hair Center has no connection to either business; we name them only because they appear in public reports. If you are researching the same country, our guide to hair transplant cost in Turkey explains what is usually included and what to check.

Why Did CBum Get a Hair Transplant?

He has not given a detailed reason in anything we found. His caption suggests an expectation of thicker hair, and the timing tells part of the story. He had just won his fifth Classic Physique Olympia title on 04.11.2023 in Orlando, which left an off-season window in which a 30-day training break would do the least harm. He was 28, an age at which a receding front is common: by 50, more than half of white men show a visible sign of male pattern hair loss, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, and it often begins at the temples.

Forum threads have offered other explanations, including links to training or supplements. None of these come from Bumstead or from a medical source about him, so we do not repeat them as fact.

His New Hairline Explained

Discussion of his result often comes down to one question that applies to every patient: why does a freshly transplanted hairline look different in the first months from the one people expect later? The illustration below is a general drawing of a front-on hairline and does not depict him.

Mature or receding hairline compared with a newly placed hairline that looks lower and more even in early photos

Why Early Photos Mislead

We do not know the design his surgical team chose, and it cannot be measured from social media. In general, a new hairline looks different early on for several reasons:

  • The front row is new: where a receding front had little hair, a full row appears at once, so the change in height is noticeable.
  • The edge has not softened: a natural hairline has single hairs scattered ahead of the denser zone, and that softness only shows once the hair grows longer.
  • The hair sheds first: transplanted hair usually falls out between weeks two and eight, and by month three the area can look thinner than before.
  • Lighting and length: very short hair under gym or stage lights shows the scalp more than longer hair would.

A hairline that suits a 28-year-old also has to suit him at 50. That is why its height is planned with the surgeon rather than copied from a photo; our article on the mature hairline explains the difference.

How Many Grafts Did CBum Get?

The number has not been published. Figures that circulate online range from about 2,000 to 4,500 grafts, but none comes from Bumstead or from the provider, and a graft count cannot be read from photos. It depends on the size of the treated area, the density the patient wants, hair thickness and how much the donor area can safely give. If you want to see how a number is worked out for a frontal hairline, our guide to how much a hairline transplant needs covers the factors, and our pages on 2,000 grafts and 4,000 grafts show what those amounts usually cover.

Which Technique Did He Have?

The method has not been confirmed. Some articles describe it as FUE, but we found no statement from Bumstead or the provider saying so. The follicular unit methods most often used for a frontal hairline today are:

  • FUE: grafts are taken one by one from the donor area, leaving small dot scars instead of a linear one.
  • Sapphire FUE: the same extraction, with sapphire blades used to open the channels for the grafts.
  • DHI: grafts are placed with an implanter pen, which gives close control of angle and direction at the front.

The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery describes FUE as harvesting follicles from the donor area at the back and sides of the scalp, where hairs will not fall out during the patient's lifetime. Our FUE vs DHI comparison explains how the choice is made. His shaved head does not settle the question either, because whether a procedure needs shaving depends on the plan; our no-shave hair transplant guide covers the options.

How Much Did CBum's Hair Transplant Cost?

The cost was not disclosed, and nothing published says whether he paid a standard price, received special terms or appeared in the provider's promotion in return. Prices depend on the number of grafts, the method, the team and what the package includes. For real figures, see our hair transplant cost guide.

CBum Hair Transplant Results Now (Updated October 2026)

As of October 2026, nearly three years have passed since the procedure, which is well beyond the 12-month mark at which even slow-growing results are usually complete. The newest dated material we found is the provider's reel of 18.09.2026, presented as his journey from planning to the final view. Since it comes from the provider, treat it as a promotional summary. His own public appearances since his retirement in October 2024 are the better independent record.

Online, forum threads have debated whether the result failed, often by comparing early shaved-head pictures with later photos. Those early pictures belong to the shedding stage and say little about the outcome. We found no statement from Bumstead expressing regret or describing a failed result.

When Did His Final Result Show?

The American Academy of Dermatology says most patients see results six to nine months after surgery, and some need 12 months. For a procedure in late November 2023, that places a fair assessment between roughly May and November 2024. The table sets the general timeline against his calendar.

Stage (general)What usually happensFor a late-November 2023 procedure
Weeks 2 to 8Transplanted hair falls outDecember 2023 to January 2024
Month 3Area may look thinnerFebruary 2024
Months 6 to 9Most patients see resultsMay to August 2024
Month 12Some patients need the full yearNovember 2024, after his sixth Olympia title

Hair Transplant Recovery for a Strength Athlete

Recovery is where his case is most useful to other lifters. He was told to take 30 days off training. In a video covered by Fitness Volt on 02.01.2024, he joked that "when someone says take 30 days off what they really mean is 21", while also admitting "I'm still not supposed to train for another week". The general timeline below comes from the American Academy of Dermatology, with his comments added.

Hair transplant recovery timeline for a strength athlete, from day zero to month 12 with the return to light training

The dermatology guidance itself is short: after surgery the scalp is bandaged and the patient receives instructions for care at home. For anyone who lifts, a few practical points follow:

  • When can I lift weights after a hair transplant? When your own surgical team says so. Bumstead was given 30 days; his joke about 21 shows how tempting it is to return early, not a safe rule.
  • Ask about training before booking: agree dates for light sessions and heavy lifting with the surgeon, not with a coach or a forum.
  • Plan around competition: he had the procedure right after the Olympia, in the off-season, so the break did not touch a contest prep.
  • Expect the shedding: hair falling out between weeks two and eight is normal; see our guide to shock loss after a hair transplant.

Our hair transplant recovery timeline covers each stage in more detail.

Is a Hair Transplant Permanent?

The American Academy of Dermatology says a hair transplant can give permanent, natural-looking results, because the moved hairs come from a donor area that keeps growing. The same source adds an important limit: hair loss and thinning can continue around the transplanted hair, so medicine is often used to keep the result. Finasteride slows further hair loss in about 80% to 90% of men who take it, and the benefits of minoxidil stop when it is no longer applied. Whether Bumstead uses either has not been made public.

Why Bodybuilders Get Hair Transplants in Turkey

Bumstead and Valliere made the trip together, and athletes from many sports have done the same. His caption hints at the practical side: one short trip, a fixed recovery plan and a result he expected to grow "thicker than ever". For a competitor, the deciding factor is timing, because the break has to fit the off-season.

The other side deserves equal weight. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery advises anyone considering treatment abroad to exercise extreme caution and to check who will perform each step of the surgery. Our pages on athlete hair transplants and celebrity hair transplants collect other confirmed cases, including the UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal.

Frequently Asked Questions About CBum's Hair Transplant

Did CBum really get a hair transplant?
Yes. He confirmed it in his own posts in late November and early December 2023, including the comment that he could not train for 30 days "post hair transplant". His case does not depend on photo comparisons.
When did Chris Bumstead get his hair transplant?
In late November 2023, at age 28. His post from Turkey is dated 30.11.2023, a few weeks after he won his fifth Classic Physique Olympia title in Orlando on 04.11.2023.
Where did CBum get his hair transplant?
In Turkey. His post tagged Now Hair Time, and that provider later called him its patient. A Generation Iron article from 06.04.2026 names Vera Clinic instead. Turkey Hair Center is connected to neither.
How many grafts did CBum get?
The graft count has not been disclosed. Numbers online, from about 2,000 to 4,500, are not from him or the provider and cannot be confirmed from photos.
Did CBum get FUE or DHI?
The technique has not been confirmed. FUE, Sapphire FUE and DHI are all common for a frontal hairline, and any article naming his exact method without a source is guessing.
How long did CBum stop training after his hair transplant?
He was told to take 30 days off. In early January 2024 he joked that 30 days "really" meant 21 but admitted he was still not supposed to train for another week.
Did CBum's hair transplant fail?
There is no evidence that it did. Claims of failure rely mainly on shaved-head and early-stage photos, taken before the hair could grow. We found no statement from Bumstead describing regret.
Will CBum's hairline stay the same?
Transplanted hair from the donor area usually keeps growing, so the result can be permanent. Hair around it can still thin with age, which is why doctors often discuss medicine after surgery.
