Theo Von Hair Transplant: Before & After, Timeline & FUE

Theo Von confirmed his hair transplants in his own words. See the 2017, 2019 and 2023 clips, his FUE recovery, before-and-after photos and what is unknown.

Performed at authorized partner hospitals Turkey Hair Center is a Ministry of Health authorized health-tourism intermediary, not a clinic.

Yes. Theo Von has confirmed his hair transplant in his own words, more than once. In a November 2017 podcast he said hair had been taken from the back of his head and put in the front. In a November 2019 clip he called a new session his "second time". In a May 2023 clip he said he had an FUE hair transplant and PRP. His graft count, his surgeon's name and the cost have never been made public.

Did Theo Von Get a Hair Transplant?

He did, and unlike most celebrities he has said so on the record. That makes his case different from the usual hairline rumour: there is no need to guess from photos whether surgery happened. The open questions are the details he chose not to share.

Many articles about Theo Von still label his first procedure as "reported" or "unverified". That is out of date. On The Fighter and The Kid podcast, in an episode clip published on 10 November 2017, he described having hair taken from the back of his head and moved to the front while he was numbed. That is a first-hand account, not a rumour.

When Did Theo Von Get His Hair Transplants?

Three dated recordings let us build a timeline that relies on what he said rather than on what blogs repeated. Two dated public photos, from 2016 and 2025, frame the period before and after.

Theo Von hair transplant timeline from 2016 to 2025 showing the 2017, 2019 and 2023 podcast statements

First Procedure: Described in 2017

In the 10 November 2017 clip titled "Hair Transplant Talk with Theo Von", he explains that hair was taken from the back and put in the front, and that the area was numbed for the procedure. He does not give an exact date for the surgery itself, so the safest statement is that it happened on or before November 2017.

Second Procedure: Discussed in November 2019

In a clip from his This Past Weekend podcast, published on 5 November 2019, he describes the session as his "second time". He says it took about four to five hours, that he was given Valium, that he dozed off watching a film, and that two nurses placed the grafts while donor hair was removed from the back of his head with a small tool.

FUE and PRP: Mentioned in May 2023

In a TheoVerse clip published on 14 May 2023 he says he got an FUE hair transplant and that he also had PRP, adding that he did it "to keep this class going". Some clinic blogs place the PRP comment in 2024; the dated clip shows it was already public in May 2023.

Theo Von Hair Transplant Before and After

The fairest comparison uses dated, freely licensed photos. The 2016 stage photo shows short hair with the natural hairline visible. The June 2025 photo, taken nearly six years after his second session, shows longer hair worn forward over the forehead.

Theo Von hairline compared in dated photos from 01.08.2016 and 05.06.2025

Before: The 2016 Photo

The hair is cut short, so the frontal hairline and the temple corners are easy to see. Nothing in a single photo can confirm a diagnosis, but it gives a clear baseline from before the procedures he described in 2017 and 2019.

After: The 2025 Photo

The hair is longer and styled forward, which covers much of the hairline. The overall frontal density looks fuller, which is consistent with his own statements, but longer hair and styling also change how dense hair looks on camera.

What Photos Can and Cannot Show

  • Lighting, camera angle and hair length change apparent density more than most people expect.
  • A forward style hides the exact position of the hairline, so it cannot be measured from the 2025 photo.
  • Photos cannot reveal how many grafts were placed or whether medication was used alongside surgery.
  • Because Theo confirmed the procedures himself, the photos only illustrate the result; they are not the evidence.

His Recovery in His Own Words

Few celebrities describe the days after surgery. In the 2019 clip, Theo gives a plain account of his first week. It is one patient's experience, not a recovery protocol, but it matches the stages patients commonly report after FUE.

Theo Von FUE recovery after his 2019 session: day 0, first nights, day 4 swelling, first wash and one week without gym
  • Day of surgery: about four to five hours with a sedative; he says he dozed off watching a film.
  • First nights: he slept propped up at roughly a 45-degree angle.
  • Day 4: swelling from the forehead moved down towards his eyes, nose and cheeks.
  • Days 5 to 6: the first time he washed the front of his hair.
  • About one week: no gym and no yoga.

Swelling that travels down the face a few days after surgery surprises many first-time patients, so hearing it from someone who went through it is useful. The full week-by-week picture, from the first wash to the shedding phase and new growth, is covered in our hair transplant recovery timeline. Here is the clip in which he describes it:

Theo Von talks FUE hair transplant procedure

What Type of Hair Transplant Did Theo Von Have?

He named the technique himself: FUE, follicular unit extraction. His description of donor hair being removed from the back with a small tool and nurses placing the grafts in the front matches how FUE works. FUE does not remove a strip of scalp, so it leaves tiny scattered dots in the donor area rather than one linear scar.

How FUE Works

FUE diagram showing grafts taken from the donor zone at the back of the head and placed along the front hairline
  • Local anaesthetic: the scalp is numbed and the patient stays awake, as Theo describes in 2017.
  • Extraction: single follicular units are removed one by one from the back and sides with a small punch.
  • Recipient sites: tiny openings are made along the hairline to set the angle and direction of each hair.
  • Implantation: the grafts are placed into those openings; Theo describes two nurses doing this step.

Our FUE hair transplant page explains the method in detail, and the FUE vs DHI comparison shows how implanter-pen techniques differ from the approach he described.

Where PRP Fits In

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is made from the patient's own blood and injected into the scalp. The American Academy of Dermatology includes it in its overview of male pattern hair loss treatments, but it is not a transplant and does not move hair. Theo's wording, "to keep this class going", suggests he used it to support the hair he had rather than to add new hair.

How Many Grafts Did Theo Von Get?

Nobody outside his medical team knows. Theo has not given a graft count in any of the three recordings. A figure of around 1,100 grafts circulates online, but it does not come from Theo; we found no statement by him that supports it, so it should not be repeated as his number.

Hairline-only work usually needs fewer grafts than restoring the top or the crown, and the real number depends on the size of the area, the donor density and the desired density. Our guide on how much a hairline transplant needs walks through how that number is estimated in a consultation.

Why Did Theo Von Get a Hair Transplant?

His own explanation is disarmingly simple. In the 2019 clip he says: "did I need it, probably not, but… I like having hair." He does not describe a medical diagnosis, a Norwood stage or a dramatic period of hair loss. Some clinic blogs describe a long "struggle with pattern baldness", but we found no first-hand source for that framing.

Where Did Theo Von Get His Hair Transplant?

He has not endorsed a clinic. In the 2019 clip he describes the doctor as a Beverly Hills surgeon who previously worked in organ transplantation, but he does not give a name, and we do not speculate about one. Any article naming a specific clinic as "Theo Von's surgeon" should be treated with caution unless it quotes him directly.

Why Did He Need a Second Session?

He did not explain the reason in detail. In general, men return for a second session for one or more of these reasons:

  • Progression: hair loss can continue behind transplanted hair, so native hair thins over time.
  • Density: a first session may be planned conservatively and a second one adds density.
  • Refining the hairline: small adjustments to shape or softness at the front.
  • Expanded coverage: treating areas that were not part of the first plan, such as the mid-scalp or the crown.

Which of these applied to Theo is not known. What his case shows is that a first transplant is often not the last decision a patient makes about their hair.

What Theo Von's Case Tells Us About Hair Transplants

  • Donor hair is finite. Every session uses grafts from the same back-and-sides area, so planning for possible future sessions matters from the start.
  • Maintenance is part of the plan. His PRP comment reflects a common approach: surgery moves hair, while non-surgical treatments aim to support the hair that remains.
  • Recovery is short but visible. His account of swelling, sleeping propped up and a week without exercise is a realistic picture of the first days.
  • Honesty helps patients. By talking about it openly, he made the procedure easier for others to discuss.
